FAQ

Can I import my own datasets into SatExplorer?

Yes, in version 1.0 of SatExplorer, you can import shapefiles and we can also incorporate your basemaps to help you identify regions of interest. This functionality will be further enhanced in future updates. To view and cross-correlate your Satellite Mapping data with your ground-based instrumentation data and so much more, explore iSiteCentral.

Can I use my satellite mapping data in other third-party software, GIS programs or my own software?

Viridien will continue to support other forms of data delivery upon request, via cloud, FTP or other file sharing methods. Plus, when delivered via SatExplorer, our satellite data is web-served via Geoserver and is therefore software-agnostic. So any data that clients view on our portal can also be streamed directly into GIS. For InSAR datasets, we have for many years provided our clients with our proprietary InSAR analyst toolbox for QGIS, ArcPro and ArcGIS. This tool will still be available upon request.

How does SatExplorer compare to Viridien’s InSAR analyst toolbox?

Viridien’s InSAR analyst toolbox is a propriety plugin for a variety of GIS applications. For experienced GIS customers, this may be preferable as it will continue to perform alongside the additional functionality that can be found in QGIS, ArcPro or ArcGIS. However, SatExplorer largely has the same functionality plus new and innovative features that makes it easier for less experienced GIS users to quickly interrogate and gain insights from their satellite mapping data types. You’ll only need a login and an Internet connection. No additional software or data handling required.

How does SatExplorer compare to Sercel’s iSiteCentral?

SatExplorer has been designed and built with satellite remote sensing end-users in mind. As such it aims to bring those users maximum value and insights from their remotely sensed datasets. By contrast, iSiteCentral is a premium web platform for visualizing and analyzing a far broader range of datasets. It offers monitoring programs using real-time instrumentation and technologies plus Viridien’s satellite mapping data for a wide variety of geotechnical and structural health monitoring applications.

How many licenses do I get with SatExplorer?

At present, SatExplorer is available to all compatible Viridien satellite mapping projects. There are no license fees, so our customers can enjoy the full functionality of our service for free. Clients can request personal accounts be set up with different permissions and functionality.

How long do you get access to data and functionality on SatExplorer?

You will be able to access your data and download it on SatExplorer for the duration of your agreed project. If you wish to keep access to SatExplorer beyond the conclusion of your project with us, you can do so by subscribing to a hosting agreement.
