View allIncreasing P-wave and S-wave velocity resolution with FWI – a North Sea shallow water case study
May 22, 2024In this paper, we show, first, how a high-resolution 65 Hz Vp model, obtained using Time-Lag FWI, can improve the imaging from the shallow to the deep. Similar improvements are then shown for PS data using a 30 Hz Vs model obtained from PS reflection-FWI. The most remarkable achievement is the flattening of the undulating chalk and top reservoir surfaces on both the Vp and Vs FWI Images, obtained from PP and PS data, respectively, which was confirmed by drilling observations.
Viridien authors of high-resolution FWI imaging paper recognized in 2024 SEG Awards
Award-winning paper presents two case studies in which FWI imaging of data acquired with a source-over-spread design outperforms conventional imaging methods in terms of image resolution. ...
High-frequency FWI Imaging: repurposing seismic data for imaging shallow hazards
We describe how FWI Imaging results from existing, raw, conventional 3D seismic data, can be used as a rapidly available 3D alternative to dedicated site surveys or supplementary dataset to help improve understanding of the shallow subsurface. ...
