Southern Viking Graben
Explore this highly prolific area of the NCS using high-quality 3D
Viridien, in collaboration with TGS and Aquila Holdings ASA (under its subsidiary Axxis Multi-client AS), has recently expanded its seismic data library on the Norwegian Continental Shelf by conducting two ocean bottom node (OBN) surveys in the Heimdal Terrace and Sleipner area of the Southern Viking Graben.
Our state-of-the-art proprietary OBN processing and imaging technology, which includes time-lag full waveform inversion (TLFWI), has produced high-quality 3D volumes to overcome challenges arising from the area’s complex geology. OBN survey acquisition offers significant advantages for the Southern Viking Graben, including:
- Enhanced illumination and resolution of the intricate geological challenges such as sand distribution and fault imaging
- More accurate velocities for depth conversion due to longer offsets
- High signal-to-noise ratio and amplitude preservation
The Heimdal Terrace OBN imaging results show substantial improvement in resolution and structural clarity over previous datasets, offering crucial insights into the region’s complex geology and reservoirs. This enhanced imaging, including depth-time conversion, will be valuable to explorers operating in the area for years to come.
Highlights
Heimdal Terrace OBN covers the Balder and Ringhorne fields, as well as the King/Prince, Enniberg and partial Busta discoveries. The final data example on the left shows a west-east orientated seismic section from the RTM (60Hz) dataset focused on reservoir intervals, highlighting complex depositional features and different fault systems.
- 426 sq km with a 50m x 300m node grid
- Final product available now
Sleipner OBN covers both the Norway and UK North Sea, including the Sleipner, Volve, Utgard and Gina Krog fields.
- 1200 sq km with a 50m x 300m node grid
- Fast-track product available February 2024 and final delivery in Q4 2024
